Erwan Heussaff believes discipline is key in handling finances

Erwan Heussaff said discipline is “the one thing that comes to mind” in terms of tackling budgeting and saving money.
During the launch of Security Bank's Complete Cashback Platinum Card on Wednesday, Erwan noted the importance of tracking one's spending to be able to effectively set up his or her monthly budgets.
“I think… before people can actually set up budgets, it's really important to first track your spending,” he said.
He said dividing expenses into different categories--such as groceries, gas, utilities, dining, and shopping--and inputting them all together in a spreadsheet can help in tracking finances monthly.
“If you have a good idea of how much you're spending per month, then you can set consequently budgets for the next months or even for the year,” Erwan explained.
He noted, however, that it all requires discipline. “The only way this all works is discipline,” Erwan said.
Erwan added that putting clear numbers on one's monthly budget would allow for some room for change on the category to spend more or from which category one can save more.
“But more importantly, once you have those numbers, once you have those budgets, then you can… know exactly what your cashback amounts would be per category, per month,” he continued.
The cashback Erwan was referring to is in connection with the bank's Complete Cashback Platinum Card that was launched on Wednesday.
Security Bank EVP and Retail Banking Segment Head Maria Cristina Tingson explained how much rebates cardholders can get depending on five categories.
Expenses on groceries get five percent cashback, four percent for gas, three percent for utilities, two percent for dining, and one percent for shopping.
“We designed our product to give our customers the power to save without having to cut back on life's essentials,” Security Bank President and CEO Sanjiv Vohra said.
