'Ultra-rare' Apple sneakers to be auctioned off for P2 million

When people think of an Apple product, the first thing that comes to mind are its computers, phones, and even its upcoming mixed reality headset. Shoes are rarely thought of, but that is exactly what's going on auction.

The Guardian reports that the auction house Sotheby's has put up a US size 10.5 Apple-branded sneaker on its website, with the price set at $50,000 or P2,728,226 based on current exchange rates.

In the description of the sneakers, it is described as being custom-made for Apple employees and was also a one-time giveaway at a National Sales Conference in the mid-'90s. The shoes feature the old school rainbow Apple logo in a predominantly white shoe, and will feature an alternative pair of red laces provided by Sotheby's in the box.

According to The Guardian, Apple had a short-lived clothing and accessories range called the Apple Collection, with products that ranged from sweaters, sunglasses, a toy truck, and even a windsurfer. Sotheby's also says that the tech company was able to sell clothing and accessories to more than 22,000 Apple customers.

This also isn't the first time that these particular Apple sneakers were sold, as The Guardian reports that one pair was found at a garage sale in Palo Alto, California. That pair was auctioned by Heritage Auction with a starting price of $30,000.

The past few months has seen Apple products rake in high prices in auctions. Just last week, an unopened 4GB model of the 2007 first generation iPhone sold at auction for $190,373 or P10,383,987 based on current exchange rates.

Back in August last year, an unopened first generation iPhone sold at auction for $35,414 or P1,932,348 based on current exchange rates.

Sneakers can really bring in lots of money, depending on its rarity. Last year saw a collection of Nike Air Force 1s sold for $502,362 or P27,411,142 based on current exchange rates.
