How to keep the fire in your marriage going? Here are some ways, according to a relationship expert.

Love may be the foundation for people to get married but it is not the single binding force that can make a marriage last between two people. It also takes respect, commitment, and a few other factors to strengthen their bond.

And what's important to note is that both parties in the marriage should be putting in the hard work to keep the relationship happy and content. One cannot alone make the bond work. As you share your life with another, you also share with them a part of yourself.

Marriage can be daunting and challenging, but don't worry, no one expects you to know what to do right away. Everyone else is also navigating through marriage life day by day.

No marriages are alike but there are ways that couples can strive to do to keep their relationship intact. In an interview with Maribel Dionisio, a relationship specialist, she explains how people come to bind themselves as one and keep the marriage stronger.

Showing your true self before the marriage

According to Maribel, in order for your love for another to become real and authentic, you must show your true self. Every person has his/her own set of positive and negative qualities and if your partner accepts your flaws and all, that in itself shows you are loved genuinely and ready to take it to the next level.

“Okay lang makita 'yung negative at kailangan ipakita natin kasi lahat naman tayo may negative qualities. Ngayon kung makaraos kayo dun sa pangalawang taon or the disillusionment phase you will move through the next phase which is true love. Totoong nagmamahalan kayo. Nakita n'yo 'yung positibo at negatibong katangian ng iyong partner at tinatanggap mo sya kasi 'yung inyong values ay pareho or compatible,” she shares.

Maintain constant affection for your partner

The fun in relationships doesn't have to end once you get married. In fact, it's vital that both you and your partner do things that can add zest into your daily life. To achieve that, a perfect balance between your career and time with your partner is essential.

Relationship expert Maribel says, “To continue being happy in the relationship, you need atleast a once-a-week date ng mag-asawa to continue the fun. Kung ano interest n'yo, gawin n'yo and live separate from parents or in-laws.”

Maintain constant communication

As partners in life, you should be constantly communicating with each other. It's not necessary to have deep talks every day; simple chats and story sharing can help. Both you and your partner should learn how to listen and talk to each other.

Relationship expert Maribel says genuinely listening to your partner is just as important as talking to them at a certain level of respect.

You should remain faithful and responsible

Relationship specialist Maribel says that fidelity is one of the most important aspects of a relationship as it will keep the marriage longer and stronger. If one is faithful, separation can be avoided.

Responsibility also plays a huge factor in making a marriage work. Both parties should be able to keep a job, be able to work, and make an income to sustain the needs of each.
