Miss Universe 2022 winners share what's uniquely beautiful about their moms
Miss Universe Philippines 2022 Celeste Cortesi and her court - made up of Miss Universe Philippines Tourism Michelle Dee, Miss Universe Philippines Charity Pauline Amelinckx, first-runnerup Annabelle Mcdonnell and second-runner up Ma. Katrina Llegado - is a group of uniquely beautiful women, and according to them, they owe it to their uniquely beautiful mothers as well.
During an interview with media organized by PLDT Home, Celeste - who now also holds the title of Miss PLDT Home, reaffirmed her pageant-winning answer while also sharing even more about her mother, Maria Luisa Rabinbin.
“I've been away for almost three years and being able to connect with her is very important to me. I can just be grateful for everything that she's done to me,” she shared. “She's been doing many sacrifices for me, my sister, and the whole family in the past. Now I just kinda want to give back to her in the best way I can.”
That's why when they asked me the final question during the coronation night, the first thing I thought was my mother because she's really the most important. Whatever I do, every single action that I do, I really do it for her.
This capacity to sacrifice for the people she loves, according to Celeste, is what she finds uniquely beautiful about her mother.
“What's uniquely beautiful about my mom is really her determination, the way she is so strong, the way she sacrificed to provide for me and my sister and in a different country. It just says a lot about her strength and determination,” she explained. “That's the uniquely beautiful attribute about my mom. It doesn't matter what she goes through, it doesn't matter the challenges and the struggles, she's always strong and she can always help others.”
With Michelle's mom Melanie Marquez being a popular celebrity in her own right, people may think they know everything there is to know about her. But Michelle says that her mom's loyalty is something that people should know more about.
“She will always put her loved ones first, her family members first. If she's in a position to help other people as well, she'll give back. It's the reason why I'm so big on advocacies also because at such a young age, I saw how my mom gave back every chance she could get. That's something I really aspire to be,” she shared.
Pauline, on the other hand, said that she hopes to become the loving person that her mother is one day.
“I'm an only child so people would expect all of her love to go to me but my mom is just overflowing with all that love that even cousins or my friends kind of feel like they've been adopted by mom already,” she gushed. “She has so much care that she puts in her actions towards other people that she's not just the mother figure to me, but she's become the mother figure to other people too.”
Meanwhile, Annabelle Mcdonnell has a different story compared to the other four. As an orphan, Annabelle did not have a mother in the strictest sense of the word.
“Growing up, my uncle had to both be my mom and my dad. The fact that he was comfortable with his masculinity helped me grow into the woman that I am,” she said.
Finally, Ma. Katrina revealed that what makes her mother uniquely beautiful is something that she shares with her.
“My mom is my number one supporter. She's always been there when I was growing up and she's very selfless,” she said. I think that's one trait that I also got from here, we always put other people first. That's why when I joined pageants, she was very happy and supportive.”
