Pre-nuptial agreement explained by experts

While marriage is a beautiful and meaningful stage for couples to enter into, it also has its challenges and boundaries that they should be mindful of.
It is a lifetime commitment that requires someone to be faithful, patient, and understanding as there will be things that need deep communication with one another.
More than the grand design of weddings, bountiful receptions, and high-end honeymoon destinations, couples who want to get married should have a common understanding of bigger topics like having children, values, and how they handle finances.
To handle issues like finances, some couples opt to have a prenuptial agreement.
Family lawyer Atty. Gaby Concepcion explained in an interview that it is an agreement between partners who are about to get married to know how they would handle and work on their properties and finances.
Prenuptial agreements give security to couples that their properties, businesses, salaries, inheritance, and even debts will be named only to them and not include their partner.
This serves as a counter to the Family Code that states that whatever someone earned and had should be shared with their partner under the sanctity of marriage.
While some Filipino couples see prenuptial agreements as an insult that implies their impure intention to marry their partner, some celebrities approve of its importance and intent like Kapuso star and Fashion icon Heart Evangelista who married politician Chiz Escudero.
Chiz said in a vlog, “In our case, we have a prenup which is a complete separation of property. Meaning: what's hers is hers, what's mine is mine”.
Aside from them, Ai Ai delas Alas and Gerald Sibayan, Vicky Belo and Hayden Kho, as well as Ellen Adarna and Derek Ramsay also signed a prenuptial agreement to keep peace within their marriages.
Prenuptial agreements will only be effective and recognized by law if both parties consent and agree to do so.
