An article published on Read Riordan emphasized that the new book will be a standalone sequel to the beloved series.
"Not a reboot. Not a reimagining. A full-blown, canonical, stand-alone sequel starring the original trio from The Lightning Thief,” it said.
The plot of the new book will be about the heroes trying to get Percy into college.
But he has to first accomplish a new quest from the gods to secure a letter of recommendation from Mount Olympus for his application to New Rome University.
As for the quest, well, Percy, Annabeth, and Grover have to retrieve the lost goblet of Ganymede, Zeus's cup-bearer.
Fans have last encountered the trio in the fifth book of Riordan's The House of Olympus series, The Blood of Olympus, published in 2014.
Disney has also recently announced that the much-awaited live-action adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will be coming soon on Disney+.
