Unopened 1st gen iPhone sells for more than $35,000

While smartphones may seem commonplace these days, it wasn't always the case. It was the arrival of the iPhone that caused a seismic and historic shift in the mobile phone industry, which explains why an unopened first generation iPhone has sold for $35,414 or P1,989,487 at auction.
RR Auction, an auction house based in Boston known for auctioning historic artifacts, rare documents, manuscripts, and autographs, sold the unopened first generation iPhone. The phone was one of several Apple historical items sold, which included the original “Apple Computer A Prototype” and a letter from Apple founder Steve Jobs.
According to HypeBeast, the phone came in a brand-new factory-sealed box, which indicates it was made in 2007, the iPhone's earliest production year. The image of the original iPhone, along with its initial 12 icons, are featured on the box. iTunes, which is also a given in iPhones today, was not included as it would only be launched in 2008.
While the latest iPhone 13 Pro has a camera that has 12-megapixel telephoto, wide, and ultra wide lenses, this first generation iPhone only has 2-megapixel lenses. The first generation iPhone auctioned off also featured visual voicemail and a web browser, which was not as commonplace in mobile phones back then as they are today.
This first generation iPhone isn't the only contemporary artifact that has sold for a huge sum in auction in recent months. Back in June, a rare LeBron James trading card was put up for auction at $6 million or P337,067,915 based on current exchange rates.
In May, a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupés sold for $143 million or P8 billion based on current exchange rates.
Last March, a rare 1999 Pokémon Base Set Shadowless 1st Edition Holo Charizard card sold for $420,000 or P23,594,754.
Back in June, a collection of Nike Air Force 1s sold for $502,362 or P28,221,685 based on current exchange rates.
