Andy Warhol's 'Shot Sage Blue Marilyn' sells at auction for $195M or P10.2B

Another record-breaking sale has been made in the art world as Andy Warhol's Short Sage Blue Marilyn portrait has been sold for $195 million, or P10.2 billion. This makes it the most expensive 20th-century artwork to ever be auctioned.
The Shot Sage Blue Marilyn sold at a Christie's auction held Monday evening, New York time. Proceeds are going to “health and education programs for children worldwide,” according to the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, the foundation set up by Swiss art dealer Thomas Ammann, who was the painting's last owner.
Before the auction, Christie's had estimated that the silkscreened piece would go for $200 million and had touted the upcoming sale as the “most expensive 20th-centruy artwork to ever sell at auction.”
The Shot Sage Blue Marilyn and its three companion Marilyn portraits are often grouped together and used in recreations and replicas. The Shot Sage Blue Marilyn is one of four portraits of the actress made by Andy Warhol, all featuring the same image of the actress with a different color background.
This new record-breaking sale - despite a little below estimate - is just the latest in what has been continued high sales in the art world.
Last year, Banksy's Love is in the Bin sold for $25.4 million, despite the fact that half of the artwork was shredded. A Frida Kahlo self-portrait also sold for $34.9 million late last year, making it the most valuable Latin American artwork to be sold at an auction.
