Happy Earth Day, fellow green people! It's that time of the year again when we all come together in celebrating Mother Earth and promoting awareness of the current state of our environment.

Although we should dedicate every day to taking care of the planet that we live on, the celebration of Earth Day serves as a reminder for us of the movement that was initiated by former Senator Gaylord Nelson, a junior senator from Wisconsin, in 1970.

Because of the effects of the massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California in 1969, the senator encourage thousands of Americans to take a stand for the environment which led to thousands of protests from colleges and universities and the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species acts. This also became the spark for organizations to conduct activities that will promote acts to take care of the environment.

Today, numerous reports on the Earth's changing environment have been rampant and continuously growing. That's why, now more than ever, we should be addressing these issues and do our part in saving the planet we are living on.

Our small efforts such as going paperless, buying from ukay-ukay shops, etc. might not be as glamorous as Senator Nelson's initiative it's still vital and creates the same huge impact that the former senator did.

And if you have no idea where to start, don't fret, as we've listed some of the ways you can partake in the movement.
