'Shrek The Musical' to be staged in the Philippines this 2025

Another international musical is stepping onto the Philippine theater stage this 2025.
Newport World Resorts Musical, the company behind Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical and Delia D.: A Musical Featuring the Songs of Jonathan Manalo, in partnership with Full House Theater Company, announced on Friday, March 21, that they are bringing Shrek The Musical to the Philippines.
It will run from October to December 2025 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater.
The Philippine production of Shrek The Musical will be under the direction of Michael Williams and assistant direction by Cara Barredo. Meanwhile, musical staging will be led by Dexter Santos, choreography under Stephen ViƱas, and music direction by Rony Fortich.
Shrek The Musical is based on the story and characters from William Steig's book Shrek! and the DreamWorks Animation film of the same name. It features music by Jeanine Tesori with book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions in 2008.
Meanwhile, the casting call for Shrek The Musical is happening on Saturday, March 29, for all adult roles. This includes Shrek, Princess Fiona, Donkey, Lord Farquaad, Dragon, Gingy, Pinnochio, and Wolf.
Auditionees must prepare 32 bars of a song from their favorite musical and a minus-one for the playback. Their latest curriculum vitae (CV), 3R-size headshot, and a full-body shot are also required.
Open call auditions for all adult roles will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2025, in Meeting Room 1, 3F, Hilton Manila. Registration runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with auditions from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
