Consortium of EDSA-located schools suspend classes on February 25

Multiple schools have announced a suspension of classes to commemorate the 1986 People Power Revolution, with the latest being a consortium of schools located along EDSA.
In the official Facebook page of EDSOR, a consortium of schools in the EDSA-Ortigas area, Xavier School, Saint Pedro Poveda College, La Salle Greenhills, and Immaculate Concepcion Academy have all announced that February 25 will be a special non-working day for their schools as part of their commitment to preserve the relevance of the EDSA People Power Revolution. The schools' joint statement added that they will “continue to keep the spirit of EDSA alive despite active efforts to undermine it.”
The ECOR announcement comes several days after the University of Santo Tomas and De La Salle University announced their suspension of classes on February 25 to commemorate the People Power Revolution. In its announcement, the University of Santo Tomas called on everyone to “participate in religious and academic activities that commemorate this moment in our history as a democracy.”
De La Salle University, on the other hand, was more direct in its condemnation of the current administration, mentioning in their statement that the administration's declaration to downgrade February 25 to a special working holiday diminishes the significance of the historic event.
Malacañang had earlier released in November last year the list of 2025 holidays, with the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary declared a special working day. Back in 2023, Proclamation No. 167 moved the holiday to February 24, supposedly “to enable our countrymen to avail of the benefits of a longer weekend pursuant to the principle of holiday economics... provided that the historical significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary is maintained."
