Malacañang moved Ninoy Aquino Day from Wednesday to Friday, August 23.

Mark your calendars, folks, because there's an upcoming four-day long weekend next week. President Bongbong Marcos signed a proclamation moving non-working holiday Ninoy Aquino Day from August 21, 2024 (Wednesday) to August 23, 2024 (Friday).

The Presidential Communications Office confirmed the news on Thursday, August 15, on its social media accounts. The President signed Proclamation No. 665 officially declaring August 23, 2024 a special non-working holiday to be observed throughout the whole country.

According to Proclamation No. 665, this adjustment aims to provide a “longer weekend" for Filipinos.

“In order to provide for a longer weekend thereby promoting domestic tourism, the celebration of Ninoy Aquino Day may be moved from 21 August 2024 (Wednesday) to 23 August 2024 (Friday),” Malacañang wrote on Thursday.

Before the adjustment of Ninoy Aquino Day, it was only supposed to be a three-day long weekend in celebration of National Heroes Day on August 26, 2024 (Monday).

While this is aimed at promoting domestic tourism and providing a long weekend, the Malacañang also reminded that Proclamation No. 665 is to be observed: “provided that the historical significance of Ninoy Aquino day is maintained.”

In accordance with the recent changes in this year's holiday, the Malacañang directed the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to “issue the appropriate circular to implement this Proclamation for the private sector.”
