Akira Toriyama, creator of Dragon Ball, passes away at 68

Akira Toriyama, the creator of one of the most beloved manga series Dragon Ball has died. He was 68.
His death was announced on the official Dragon Ball X account. The account posted a photo of a letter dated March 8, 2024 signed by Bird Studio, a manga and design production studio founded by Akira.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to acute subdural hematoma,” the letter started.
Subdural hematoma is a buildup of blood in the brain, specifically under the dura mater, the protective layer closest to the skull. The main cause is a head or brain injury.
In the letter, Bird Studio also mentioned that Akira was still working on several projects before he passed away.
“It's our deep regret that he still had several works in the middle of creation with great enthusiasm. Also, he would have many more things to achieve,” the letter said.
“However, he has left many manga titles and works of art to this world. Thanks to the support of so many people around the world, he has been able to continue his creative activities for over 45 years. We hope that Akira Toriyama's unique world of creation continues to be loved by everyone for a long time to come,” it continued.

Akira started his career at the age of 23. His first manga series was Dr. Slump but his most popular creation was Dragon Ball. Dragon Ball even became an anime series shown all over the world. Aside from the TV series, Dragon Ball has also been turned into several video games.
