DLSU honors alumnus Mike Enriquez

Mike Enriquez and his contributions to the De La Salle University system were recalled in a Facebook post.

It wasn't just the Philippine news and broadcasting industry that was mourning the passing of veteran broadcast journalist Mike Enriquez, but his alma mater as well.

In a post on the official Facebook page of De La Salle University (DLSU), the school recalled the many contributions that Mike Enriquez had made to the university and the Lasallian community.

An AB-BSC graduate of DLSU back in 1973, Mike Enriquez has gone on to serve as a member of the University Board of Advisors and was also a recipient of the 2007 De La Salle Alumni Association Lasallian Achievement Award.

Aside from De La Salle University, Mike Enriquez was also involved in the other schools in the De La Salle University system. He was chairman of the Board of Trustees of La Salle Green Hills, and trustee of De La Salle College of Saint Benilde, De La Salle University-Dasmarinas, De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute, and De La Salle Araneta University. He was also a member of the National Mission Council of De La Salle Philippines.

As of this writing, the post on the De La Salle University official Facebook page has more than 6,000 reactions.

The passing of Mike Enriquez was confirmed last night by GMA Network, with a statement that praised his dedication to the industry.

"It is with profound sadness that GMA Network announces the passing of our beloved Kapuso, Mr. Miguel 'Mike' C. Enriquez, who peacefully joined our Creator on August 29, 2023.

"Enriquez, 71, was one of the anchors of GMA's flagship newscast '24 Oras' and hosted the long-running public affairs program, 'Imbestigador.' He also served as President of RGMA Network, Inc. and GMA Network's Senior Vice President and Consultant for Radio Operations. He also anchored DZBB's 'Super Balita sa Umaga' and 'Saksi sa Dobol B.' He joined the broadcast industry in 1969 and then became part of GMA Network in 1995, wholeheartedly serving the Filipino audience for 54 years.

"The Board of Directors, management, and employees of GMA Network, Inc. deeply mourn the passing of Mr. Enriquez. His dedication to the industry will serve as an inspiration to all. We pray for the eternal repose of our beloved Kapuso."
