NewJeans breaks Guinness World Record and is now the fastest K-pop group to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify
Fourth-generation K-pop girl group NewJeans is further cementing their stance as one of the most impactful Asians ever as they break the Guinness World Record and become the fastest K-pop artist ever to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
They followed BTS's Jungkook the reigning Guinness World Record holder for the fastest male K-pop soloist to reach 1 billion streams and BLACKPINK's Lisa who's holding the same title for the female counterpart.
The girl group, comprising members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, only had a total of six songs available on Spotify, having only made their debut in July 2022. Regardless, their songs “Attention,” “Hype Boy,” “Cookie,” “Hurt,” “Ditto,” and “OMG” managed to gain traction all over the internet and made them the reigning world record holder.
This could probably be due to a lot of other factors such as NewJeans came in the time of TikTok where songs just get effortlessly stuck in your head, all of their songs are in tune with the palette of this generation, they're embedded with a certain type of prestige and hipness despite being rookies, and so much more.
It seems like whatever sphere they step on, NewJeans dominates. Even the realm of haute couture acknowledged their presence and formed partnerships with them. Minji, the leader, is currently the face of Chanel. Hanni, on the other hand, represents Gucci and Armani Beauty. Danielle is the brand ambassador of Burberry and YSL Beauty. Haerin has recently been announced as the global brand ambassador of Christian Dior. Lastly, Hyein is the face of Louis Vuitton.
As a group, they've also been tapped by numerous brands to have collaborations. The most notable of them all is the American denim brand Levis and the well-loved fast-food chain Mcdonald's.
