When art and interior design meet

“Art tells more stories about our clients. It's like when you see an art piece in someone's home, you get an idea of the dweller's personality or character. Art is what completes the puzzle piece in every design challenge we take on,” she shares.
Jasmine, fondly called “Jas” by her peers, is the founder of Alabang-based design firm Jas Ancheta Interiors, which recently celebrated its sixth anniversary. She started the firm in 2016 with a mission to help more Filipinos bring their dream spaces to life.
Jas found her calling in interior design when she built her dream home for her family. Before finishing salutatorian at Philippine School of Interior Design, Jas graduated cum laude with a degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from the University of the Philippines. A consistent honor student, she also took her MBA at De La Salle University.
Since starting her own firm six years ago, Jas used her entrepreneurial mindset and knack for design to bag clients ranging from condominium unit owners to corporate clients like SM and the Unilab Foundation.
She has brought spaces to life in cities like Manila, Bacolod, Cebu, Tagaytay, and even Hawaii in the US. Her notable projects include the industrial Melbourne-inspired Southbank restaurant in Alabang and contemporary luxury at The Suites in BGC. Jas Ancheta Interiors also recently sponsored the PUP School of Interior Design exhibit and co-organized a career fair for interior designer students.
Her firm is known for marrying vintage and modern styles but according to Jas, they are now committed to adapting a more sustainable approach in all of their projects. The company is now more conscious of what they use in their projects like eco-friendly fixtures and timeless pieces that are built to last. They will also optimize the spaces in a way that promotes energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
Aside from sustainability, the firm also announced its new art and design philosophy, which they revealed during the company's anniversary celebration.
Jas along with her husband, Allan Ancheta, an art collector, has always been passionate about art. This is what led them to establish the Cabinet at Canterbury, a gallery housed under Jas' design firm, in 2018.
The Cabinet at Canterbury features a myriad of collections - sculptures and paintings alike, from all over the world. The pieces have been procured during the Anchetas' many overseas travels as well as from Filipino artists like Richard Buxani, Ram Mallari, and Nixxio Castrillo. The works of up and coming artists like Ronald Pakingan Castrillo, Karen Castrillo-Villaseñor, AR Manalo, Erik Masangkay and Micko Macariola are also among the highlights of the gallery.
Allan also wrote a book in 2021 titled Fusion, which takes readers through the cathartic role of art, citing the marvelous works found in their gallery and unravels the stories behind the artists.
This year, the Cabinet at Canterbury is introducing a free art consultancy service for aspiring art collectors and enthusiasts who don't know where to begin. Those who wish to avail of the service may inquire about the basics of art collecting, and how an artwork can complement one's space based on the client's taste.
