Pia Wurtzbach shares that letting the good thoughts win is a daily choice.

Former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach joined people in celebrating Mental Health Awareness month by sharing her own mental health journey on her social media.

In a post on her Instagram account, Pia started out by saying that while her posts make it seem like she leads a problem-free life, this is far from the case as her social - and other people's social media - are all “carefully curated” and only show the best part of their lives.

She then reminded her followers about her revelation last year of all the mental health problems

she faced after winning the Miss Universe crown, which included getting diagnosed with a generalized anxiety disorder and major depression that required the Miss Universe Organization to step in and arrange for her to get therapy sessions.

She then shared that every day in her life involves making a choice to not let her mental health struggles overcome her, despite the healthier habits she has acquired to manage her emotions. She also said that while the good thoughts have been winning lately, the fact that she has to choose every day is exhausting.

She then called on her followers to “celebrate even the little victories,” such as managing to get up in the morning or accomplishing “even just one task” on their to-do list. She emphasized that while some people may think of it as something simple, it already “takes a lot inside” for some people.

She then called on her followers to “keep winning everyday,” to stay strong and focused, as well as to not be afraid to reach out to someone and lend a helping hand.

Pia's fans and Instagram followers have been witness to all the steps she has taken to improve her mental health, such as her joining the New York marathon last July, sharing that has gotten “serious about running.”

While Pia admits that sometimes missing marathon training can also be taxing on her mental health, it has overall helped her “feel better,” “sleep better,” and “manage stress better.”
