Catriona Gray opens up about scoliosis; shares tips for detecting early signs of the condition

To wrap up the Scoliosis Awareness Month, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray opened up through an Instagram Reel last Sunday, June 30, about her condition as someone who was diagnosed with scoliosis.
She also taught a simple activity called #StripesFitCheck that could potentially help people check for early signs of scoliosis.
#StripesFitCheck is done by wearing any fitted striped clothes and putting one's body in a relaxed manner. The striped clothing will highlight any irregularities in a body that could be signs of curvatures of the spine or scoliosis.
As someone who was diagnosed with scoliosis at the young age of 12 but still failed to get a brace, Catriona said this is her way of helping people check if they have scoliosis to prevent any further conditions like chronic back pains and limit the progression of the angle of the curve.

Catriona also penned an inspiring message to anyone who has scoliosis in celebration of the Scoliosis Awareness Month: “My body and I have gone through [a lot] together. Admittedly there have been many times, as I've studied myself in the mirror, seen pictures of myself, or when I try on a piece of clothing that just doesn't sit right - where the unnatural tilt of my ribs, or hunch of my shoulder has made me feel insecure.
“My condition, most especially during my stint in international pageantry put me on the receiving end of countless body shaming comments because of the "unflattering" angles my body creates,” Catriona added.
Of course, being the sensible Miss Universe that she is, Catriona Gray also reminded everyone that “scoliosis doesn't have to be a limiting condition.” She also stressed that no one is “limited to just a body shape or ideal.”
She added, “The greatest service your body serves is not to please whatever body ideal is popular or praised by society but to house the beautiful soul - that is you!!”
