Ken Chan advocates for eye health care

For Sparkle star and Abot-Kamay na Pangarap actor Ken Chan, one of the most important parts of the body to take care of are the eyes, especially since “we use our eyes in everyday life.”
During the EyeMo Media and Bloggers Launch on Wednesday, June 5, Ophthalmologist Dr. Jennifer Santos-Rayos talked about Dry Eyes Disease, and its effects on the eyes. According to her, enflamed, rough, and tired eyes are all signs of dry eyes.
“When you have dry eyes, usually, you'll feel mahapdi, pagod 'yung mata, 'yan 'yung usual complaint ng mga patient namin. Magaspang, parang may puwing, may nakapuwing sa mata nila. Itchy, siyempre naluluha, very light sensitive,” she shared.
She also identified the risk factors for the dry eye disease.
Dr. Jennifer said, “Menopausal women are pre-disposed to dry eyes, eight out of ten, if you are a chronic contact lens wearer, matagal na nagco-contact lens, the cornea gets pre-disposed to dry eyes as well. If you're taking medications, specifically allergy meds because allergy meds tend to dry you up so pati mata, dry din.”
International Operations from Combiphar Weitarsa Hendarto and EyeMo Senior Marketing Manager Earl Jayona launched a new campaign to combat this, the “'Wag Tiisin ang Dry Eyes, #MoistUrEyes.”
According to Weitarsa, they started this campaign because they believe that no one should have to endure the discomfort of dry eyes. He added that the campaign is also to encourage people to take preventive steps to have better eye health and comfort.
“The 'Wag Tiisin ang Dry Eyes, #MoistUrEyes campaign is more than just a campaign, it is a call to action. We aim to raise awareness on the prevalence of dry eye disease and the importance of proper eye care,” he said.

As to why Ken advocates for better eye health, he said, “Everything that I love doing involves having proper vision. Not only to me, lahat sa atin. Especially in my line of work, it's very important, you know, reading scripts and all. So kailangan talaga i-tackle ito. It's a really good platform to advocate and educate people because ginagamit natin 'yung mga mata natin sa pang -araw-araw na buhay natin sa ating lifestyle,” he said.
Ken added that as an actor, he relies on his eyes to express his characters' emotions which is why he needs to take care of them.
“Kung papabayaan ko 'yung mga mata ko, wala na akong kikitain. Wala na 'kong kikitain, wala pa 'kong makikita so it's important,” he said.
