Toyo Eatery, Gallery by Chele make it to the best restaurants list
It's yet another victorious moment for the Philippine culinary scene as two of the country's famous restaurant are recognized as two of the best restaurants in Asia.
Toyo Eatery was recognized as one of the 50 Best Restaurants in Asia awards ceremony that was recently held in Seoul, South Korea. The restaurant placed 42nd in this year's list, which had the Bangkok-based “progressive Indian” restaurant Gaggan in first place.
On the Asia's 50 Best Restaurant website, Toyo Eatery is described as a restaurant that “put people and the planet first”. Aside from being recognized for its placement in the top 50 list, Toyo Eatery was also awarded the Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award that recognizes excellence in restaurant service and dining experiences. Previous recipients include Singapore's Zén and Odette and Hong Kong's Vea.
While not recognized at the awards ceremony in Seoul, Gallery by Chele is part of the extended list at 72nd place. The last time that Gallery by Chele was on the list was back in 2022, when it was at 69th place.

Aside from Toyo Eatery, another Filipino culinary institution that was recognized at the awards ceremony was chef Margarita Forés who passed away more than a month ago.
Margarita Forés was awarded the Woodford Reserve Icon Award, which “recognizes an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the hospitality industry worthy of global recognition.” The organization featured the awarding on their Instagram Story.
Photo source: @theworlds50bestThe organization had earlier posted about the award on Instagram, describing Margarita as “one of the most celebrated culinary figures in the Philippines and across Asia”, a “much-loved member of the culinary community” and a “driving force”.
Margarita Forés' passing was first announced by her son Amado, who posted a plain white image on his Instagram account and asked for prayers for an “unexpected loss”.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share the sudden passing of my Mom, Margarita A. Forés. Our family is mourning this unexpected loss, and we kindly ask for your prayers during this time. We will be able to share more in due time,” his caption read.
It was later on revealed that she passed away due to cardiac arrest.
