French fries, which are actually made with potatoes, have a high carbohydrate content. Carbohydrates help increase serotonin levels in the brain thus making one feel good and positive after consuming them. As described by the National Library of Medicine, serotonin is a neurotransmitter that mediates satisfaction, happiness, and optimism.
Apart from that, french fries fall under the category of highly palatable foods which basically means they taste good. Science has shown that eating food that tastes good triggers one's feel-good hormones called dopamine.
Because french fries is an important part of human food culture, a day is dedicated to honor the deliciousness of this fried food.
Contrary to popular belief, french fries did not come from France but it originated from Belgium.
History shows that there is no exact person who invented it but an 18th-century manuscript dated 1781 reveals that individuals from small Belgian villages created it. Back then, they cut the potatoes into fish shapes and served them as substitutes to their frozen river fishes.
Since then, the manner of producing and eating french fries has changed. Now, the potatoes are cut in various shapes but the most common is the baton cut or the standard cut. There's also the waffle cut, the thick Belgian cut, the shoestring, the curly cut, the crinkle cut, the steak cut, the potato wedges, among others. The starchy sticks are then deep fried to golden perfection---crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside.
French fries can be consumed in a lot of different ways. Oftentimes, they are served as side dishes to main meals such as steak, burger, and chicken. But as a stand alone snack, they are already perfect.
The simple standard cut sprinkled with salt is the perfect snack. It is perfect as it is or pair it with ketchup, mayonnaise, or mustard. Filipino style is served with a Thousand Island sauce, which is basically a mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise.

Crunchy french fries are also best paired with cheese. Whether it's grated, melted, or in humongous strips, cheese adds saltiness to the snack and makes it all the more flavorful. Dipping it in a blue cheese dip also works.
