Thanks to a dream, there's a new merienda stall that foodie Filipinos can visit!

As Filipinos, our day isn't complete if we don't have a merienda to eat. If you're the kind of person that finds it hard to pick which merienda to have for the day, there is a stall in Tondo, Manila that would be perfect for you.

This is because it doesn't just serve one type of merienda, but a variety of it, ranging from spaghetti, lasagna, and carbonara, to drinks like mango tapioca milk and sweets like donuts. Good News Kasama si Vicky Morales visited this merienda stall to find out the story behind it.

Yanin's Food and Drinks was started by Czarina “Yanin” Ramos after the death of her father in 2018. Because she was close to her father, Yanin found herself unmoored and left her father's store unattended. She was only able to turn things around when she had a dream involving her father, who advised her to fix her life.

Yanin started out selling halo-halo, and when they had more capital they began to think of other items to sell. Some of the added items on the menu include pancit palabok chock full of ingredients like crushed chicharon, garlic, tinapa flakes, spring onion, chicharon bits, tofu, squid ink, shrimp, egg, and pork. Yanin sells it for only P50.

Another bestseller is their mango tapioca milk that is sold for P100. People also visit them for their mini-donuts, which come in milk chocolate and white chocolate flavors. There are also a number of toppings to choose from, such as almonds, cookies, coated chocolate, marshmallows, sprinkles, crispies, skimmed milk, and choco malt powder. A 20-piece set is worth P165, while an eight-piece set sells for P65.

The staff that Yanin works with has also grown. Before, it was just her and her husband manning the store, but now the store has another branch and Yanin employs 35 people to run both branches. The business has also begun to earn more. If they used to earn P2,000, the figure now ranges from P50,000 to P70,000.
