Alex Eala, who by the time of her wins was a wildcard contender, defeated French Open champion and world No. 25 Jelena Ostapenko and reigning Australian Open champion and world No. 5 Madison Keys. She then secured her spot in the semi-finals when she showed her Filipina strength against five-time grand slam champion world number two Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinal of the Miami Open, 6-2, 7-5, on Thursday morning, March 27. Her back-to-back feats at the Miami Open 2025 put her at no. 75 WTA rankings, a huge jump from her no. 140 spot. On Friday morning, March 28, Alex faces one of her biggest games yet, where she will go head-to-head with the world's No. 4 Jessica Pegula of the United States.
