Filipino designers take center stage at BYS Fashion Week 2024

Filipino fashion and artistry took the spotlight last week as the third BYS Fashion Week was held in the cities of Makati and Manila.
According to BYS, the fashion event is a “celebration of what Philippine fashion has achieved so far,” as well as the “celebration of who we are and our true fashion identity.”
Filipino designers Patty Ang and Rajo Laurel opened this year's BYS Fashion Week with their spectacular collections at two consecutive shows in Makati on Thursday, October 10.
In an interview with GMA Lifestyle, Patty said she wanted to do something different for her first show after six years.
“I think we combined all the elements together… I wanted to do something fresh, something light, and since we figured that the venue is outside… we wanted something more fun and fresh,” Patty explained.

Patty's collection was showcased at the popular Ayala Triangle in Makati.
Patty highlighted the memories she made with her team when asked about her favorite part of the experience.
“I think it's always the memories with my team. Even though we fight at times because of the collection… it's creating memories with them for me,” she said.
Renowned designer Rajo Laurel also took center stage on the first day of the fashion week as he unveiled his first menswear collection, Rajoman.
Rajo showcased an extensive collection that featured chic and unique pieces at the Space at One Ayala.
In a previous Instagram post, Rajo said he has been working on the collection since February.
During the show, Nadine Lustre and Donny Pangilinan dazzled the crowd as they walked the runway donning two of Rajo's pieces from the Rajoman collection.

In Patty's interview, she highlighted how important public and private support is in further promoting the fashion industry in the country.
“We have so much talent but I think we also need so much support,” she said.
Patty added that fashion events like the BYS Fashion Week help push local designers.
“Imagine everyone is having a solo show… I think, with that, they believe in us, and we're very thankful,” she continued.
The BYS Fashion Week 2024 ran from October 10 to 14, 2024, with 10 local fashion designers showcasing their collections on the runway.
