Following the successful turn-over of the 403 housing units of Kapuso Villlage Tacloban to its beneficiaries last May, the GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) marks the 2nd anniversary of typhoon Yolanda with the inauguration of Kapuso Village Palo. The169-unit village in Palo, Leyte is the 5th Kapuso Village nationwide.
Amongst the guests of the inauguration ceremony are representatives from the local government unit, a representative from Hanabishi and barangay officials. Rev. Fr. Edgar Monge officiated the blessing of the housing units. GMAKF EVP and COO Mel Tiangco led the official turnover of the units to their recipients. In her keynote speech, Mel Tiangco thanked and acknowledged the essential contribution of GMAKF’s donors and partners that made the construction of Kapuso Village Palo possible.
One of the highlights of the event is a moving testimonial from one of the beneficiaries of the newest Kapuso Village. Vilma Casin narrated her experience when Yolanda hit in 2013 and the dreaded aftermath that cost the lives of her two children. Casin recounted her story of courage and conveyed her gratitude as the foundation helped her move past the tragedy and regain her foothold in life with a new home in the Kapuso Village.
Hanabishi appliances were distributed as gifts to welcome the new home owners, whilst Whirlpool and Fujidenzo appliances were given-away through a raffle draw. More trees are soon to adorn the village as a tree planting activity closed the event.
That day, each beneficiary received their Certificate of Occupancy, alongside the hope of new memories to build and new dreams to fulfill.
Alongside the induction of Kapuso Village Palo is the inauguration of the rehabilitated and constructed 36 Kapuso classrooms in five schools in Eastern Samar and Leyte: 6 in San Pedro Elementary School, 6 in Quinapondan National High School, 10 in Tugbong Central School, 10 in Villaba National Comprehensive High School and 4 in San Joaquin Nation High School.
A tree-planting activity is always an integral part of GMAKF inaugurations – imparting environmental awareness and eliciting compassion for Mother Earth.
Now, the construction of a multi-purpose hall and a Kapuso elementary school within Kapuso Village Tacloban is on its way – new additions to the 5 Kapuso Villages and 376 Kapuso classrooms all over the country, brought upon by the unfailing support of GMAKF’s donors and partners.
