November 3, 2014- On the same week when the alert level status of Mayon Volcano was raised to level 3 and the residents living within the 9 KM danger zone were moved to different evacuation sites, GMA Kapuso Foundation (GMAKF) started to deliver relief assistance to affected families in several municipalities in Albay province in anticipation of possible eruption.
As of this writing, the Operation Bayanihan has served a total of 35, 708 individuals or 8, 927 families with packs of relief goods and/or drinking water, laundry soaps, and shampoo.
Soup Kitchen in selected evacuation centers was also held prior to the actual relief operations.
While concerns on water supply, health and sanitation, crowded classrooms, and provisions of livelihood remain a challenge for the evacuees, they were able to rejoin with thankfulness for the quick aid of the GMAKF to their families.
The operation was made successful with the cooperation of Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center, Philippine National Police- Tabaco, Municipal Social Welfare office, Tabaco National High School and barangay units. In addition, GMAKF’s partners such as Asia Brewery, Agua Vida Systems,Inc., Kasangga Movers and Company, Inc and Readycon Trading and Construction Corporation assisted in the operations.
