Descendants of the Sun: The Philippine Adaptation is based on the South Korean top-rating and multi-award-winning TV series of the same name. The original South Korean series was top-billed by A-list Korean actors, Song Joong-Ki and Song Hye-Kyo. It won Most Popular Show of the Year in South Korea last 2016, was aired in 17 countries and is available for streaming on Netflix worldwide. A Filipino-dubbed version was also aired by GMA Network in the Philippines last 2016. China will adapt and Vietnam has already adapted the series locally due to its popularity, while in the Philippines, the local adaptation aired in February 2020. The Philippine adaptation is starred by highly sought-after Kapuso actors, Dingdong Dantes (as Lucas Manalo a.k.a. Big Boss), Jennylyn Mercado (as Dr. Maxine dela Cruz), Rocco Nacino (as Diego Ramos a.k.a. Wolf), and Jasmine Curtis-Smith (as Moira Defensor).

The Philippine adaptation stays true to the storyline of the original series but adapts it to the Philippine context to better suit local Filipino taste.
