iJuander: Who si Emilio Aguinaldo in the modern world?
According to history, in March 1897 an election between the two groups of Katipunan was held at Tejeros in Makati. Magdalo, which was spearheaded by Emilio Aguinaldo beat Magdiwang's group leader Andres Bonifacio for presidency in the said election.
Although he was defeated, Andres Bonifacio was elected as Director of Interior until Caviteno official Daniel Tirona opposed the decision. This was because the revolutionary leader of Magdiwang didn't have a school diploma. This occurrence forced Andres Bonifacio to create his own government and become the president at Naic in Cavite.
According to the grandchild of first president Emilio Aguinaldo, “Nahuli sila sa Naic na ginagawa nila yun na labag sa kasunduan doon sa Tejeros. Kaya naka court martial si Andres Bonifcaio sa Maragondon.”
“Kinakailangan mabura sa eksena 'yung isa ng sa gayon maisulong ang rebolusyon. Sa punto de bista ng mga maka Aguinaldo, konsolidasyon ang kaniyang pamumuno at pag iisa ng hanay ng himagsikan 'yung isinakatuparan. Kaya pagtataksil sa bayan ang sinabing kasalanan ng mga Bonifacio,” shares Dr. Francis Gealogo, a historian from Ateneo de Manila University.
Although the punishment set by the first president of the Philippines was solely exile, Emilio Aguinaldo's council opposed this and advised him to kill Andres Bonifacio and his brother as they were a huge threat to the ongoing revolution.
