How Benedict Cua's family matters affect his parenting style
In 2024, content creator and Sparkle artist Benedict Cua surprised fans and followers by introducing his son Aleck.
Almost a year of being a first-time dad, Benedict shared his values and parenting styles in the February 12 episode of the GTV cooking talk show Lutong Bahay with Mikee Quintos and Hazel Cheffy.
According to him, his parenting style was influenced by his family situation.
“Biggest struggle ko [is] 'yung ma-witness ko lahat ng kaklase ko, meron sila, kami wala,” Benedict opened up. “'Di ba, dati luxury na 'yung libro? E, and hindi lahat ng gusto namin, nakukuha namin.”
Still, Benedict remained understanding of his parents and took his situation as an inspiration for his parenting style.
“I never took it against my parents,” said Benedict. “Siguro 'yun 'yung gagawin ko sa parenting ko ngayon, is ipapakita ko kung ano 'yung struggles ko. For me, ha. Subjective.”
He expressed his frustrations, “Feeling ko, mali ng mga parents, sino-solo nila lahat. I still don't know where they got my tuition fee. Pero as an anak, I empathize a lot.”
Benedict also stood his ground and made sure not to compare his life to others, “Hindi ako nagpadala sa inggit. Hindi ako nagpadala sa 'what ifs.' Ang na-instill ko siguro was what can I do to be better instead of [saying] 'I wanted that life.”
The celebrity dad also shared some factors he considered before entering parenthood, “Feeling ko hindi quantifiable, e. Hindi siya quantifiable na, okay, ito na 'yung age ko [kaya] dapat magkaanak na ako, ito na 'yung naipon ko, ganyan. Kailangan marunong ako sa lahat ng gawaing-bahay, marunong ako magdisiplina, marunong ako to set limits kasi kung people-pleaser pa rin ako, baka mapasa ko talaga 'yun sa anak ko. Stable ako mentally [and] emotionally. I'd be able to at least provide for the first few years of my son.”

Until college, Benedict carried his life experiences and showed the resiliency he learned through them.
“Nagbebenta [ako] ng tsinelas, kahit even noong college, nagbebenta rin ako ng mga bagay-bagay na nakikita ko sa bookstore namin, pero mas mura ko binebenta,” Benedict shared with Mikee and Hazel Cheffy.
He also noted, “Feeling ko mas nasa diskarte part ako, kaysa sa booksmart.”
Mikee then asked Benedict, “Would you say magaling kang mag-handle ng pera?”
He answered, “Proud. Sobrang proud ko sa pag-handle ng money dahil hindi ako humingi ako sa parents ko (since graduation)."
