Why Matt Lozano kept 'Voltes V: Legacy' audition secret from family
Voltes V: Legacy star Matt Lozano revealed that he was not allowed to enter showbiz although both of his parents are in the entertainment industry.
Matt's mom is TV and film producer Elaine Lozano while his dad, Marlon Lozano, is a former actor and production manager.
In an interview with Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, Matt said that his mom did not approve of him going into showbiz. This is the reason he kept his audition for the local live-action adaptation of Voltes V a secret from his mom.
“Noong una hindi niya alam. Nag-audition ako... First audition ko 'yon sa Voltes V,” he said.
The actor said he tried his luck when someone told him that the production is looking for an actor to play Big Bert Armstrong. Initially, the actor-singer was hesitant to do it because he had already given up on acting.
“Sabi ko parang wala na siguro akong pag-asa. Suko na ako sa showbiz that time,” he said.
“Pero pinuntahan ko. Sabi ko, 'Wala namang mawawala, e. Mataba naman 'yong kailangan nila.' So nag-audition ako.”
He only revealed this to his mom after his auditon. When told about it, Matt's mom said that she would not intervene with the process even if she's friends with Voltes V: Legacy director Mark Reyes.
He recalled his mom's words, “Hands off ako riyan. Hands off ako riyan. Kahit close ko si Mark, bahala na sila kung kukunin ka nila o hindi.”
Matt was surprised when he was asked to come to a second call-back for the audition. His mom advised him to do good and to prepare once the production asked him to come.
“Doon na ako nag-start mag-training. Nagte-training ako ng martial arts, arnis, para 'pag nakita ako ni Direk Mark, handa ako,” he said.
When he broke the news to his mom that he got the role, Matt said, “Sabay kami. Umiyak kaming dalawa.”
