Rex Baculfo wins 'The Clash 2023'
After more than a year, The Clash has a new grand champion.
Caloocan City's simpatikong bokalista Rex Baculfo was declared as the winner of the fifth season of the GMA musical competiton in its Sunday's (May 28) episode.
He was among the final four contestants of The Clash 2023 along with Arabelle dela Cruz, Liana Castillo, and Mariel Reyes.
In the sixth round called “Matira ang Pinakamatibay,” Rex went against his co-finalists, singing "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson.
After the four performed, the judges Aiai Delas Alas, Christian Bautista, and Lani Misalucha deliberated who among the four Clashers would compete in the one-on-one clash.
Rex went head-to-head with Laguna's Arabelle in the final battle where they both performed "Oras Ko 'To," an original piece composed by The Clash judge and Asia's Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista and arranged by The Clash musical director Marc Lopez.
The panel favored Rex's version of "Oras Ko 'To” over Arabelle's, making him the newest The Clash champ.
As the fifth winner, Rex gets to take home PhP1 million in cash, exclusive contract under GMA, and a brand-new house and lot worth PhP3 million from Camella -- a prize package worth more than PhP4 million.
Meanwhile, the three finalists won a consolation prize worth PhP100,000 each.
