Dennis Trillo sees Jose Rizal's death anniversary more meaningful because of his role
National hero Jose Rizal will be celebrating his 126th death anniversary on December 30. For Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo, he could not help but express how the upcoming death anniversary of the Philippine hero will be more meaningful for him now after playing the role of Crisostomo Ibarra in the hit fantasy series Maria Clara at Ibarra.
In an interview with Lhar Santiago on Chika Minute on 24 Oras, Dennis expressed his appreciation for the importance of Jose Rizal and how he is the kind of person the country needs today.
“Ganun ka-forward mag-isip, ganun kalalim yung pagmamahal sa pamilya, lalong-lalo na sa bayan,” he said.
Maria Clara at Ibarra is inspired by Noli Me Tangere, written by Rizal. It talks about the unfairness of the ruling government and Spanish friars in upholding and implementing the law against the Filipinos during his time.
In the series, Klay (Barbie Forteza) is sent into the novel to learn the lessons from the novel and meets Ibarra, Maria Clara (Julie Ann San Jose), Padre Damaso (Tirso Cruz III), among others.
Dennis, meanwhile, teased that there is a lot to look forward to in the series, especially the transition of the story from Noli to El Filibusterismo, the second novel written by Rizal.
“Sinong mga characters yung mga mapupunta dun sa book 2, kung papaano makakaapekto yung mga experiences nila dun sa Noli pagdating sa El Fili,” he said.
The taping of the series is still ongoing despite the upcoming holidays and the actors only have a few days to celebrate Christmas and New Year before they're back to work.
For Dennis, his plans for the holidays are to stay with his family, his wife Jennelyn Mercado, and their kids. According to the actor, it's more important to know who you are with during the holidays rather than where you will be going.
“Hindi importante kung saan, importante yung mga kasama mo and yung quality ng time na ibibigay mo sa kanila,” he added.
