Gil Cuerva learns the value of good parenting, thanks to 'Love You Stranger'

By Aaron Brennt Eusebio
"[Good] parenting is really vital and integral in the way a person grows," says Gil Cuerva.

Kapuso actor Gil Cuerva learned a lot from starring as Tristan Dela Paz in GMA Public Affairs' mystery-romance series, Love You Stranger. And the greatest lesson he learned was the importance of good parenting.

In Love You Stranger, Tristan's father Alfie, portrayed by Tonton Gutierrez, expected a lot of things from his son. Because of this pressure from his parent, Tristan didn't have a chance to explore what he wanted to do in life.

"Si Tristan kasi is a product and victim of bad parenting. And now, I think the reason that there are a lot of, I guess, troubled, challenged, and messed up people in the world, is the result of bad parenting," he said candidly to GMANetwork.com.

"For example, in the case of Tristan, it's the way his father placed all of these expectations, this pressure on him to become what he wanted him to be as opposed to letting Tristan wants to become.

"And, that goes without saying na kriminal din si Alfie, so, I guess, [good] parenting really is vital and integral in the way a person grows."

For Khalil Ramos, who plays director Ben, the greatest lesson he learned was how important it was for everyone to look out for others, especially in these trying times.

"One of my biggest lessons talaga is that all of us, mayroon tayong sari-sariling nating mga challenges and struggles. And, some of us, have it way worse and are going through a much difficult, a much more difficult time than us," he said.

"So, sometimes, hindi natin alam, hindi natin na-realize na even one short 'Kumusta?' to someone goes actually a really, really long way."

Aside from a simple "Hi" or "Hello," the 26-year-old actor also added that it is likewise important to maintain a good relationship with friends and family.

"Take care of your relationships, talk more to people, especially to those you haven't talked to in a while, and always remember the value of communicating and being open to one another," he ended.

For Khalil's on- and off-screen partner Gabbi Garcia, one lesson that she learned from the show was selflessness.

Gabbi portrays LJ, a loving daughter who takes care of her traumatized mother Lorraine, portrayed by Andrea Del Rosario.

"What I learned about 'Love You Stranger,' particularly my character, is to be selfless. We always think about ourselves first nowadays, laging, 'Ano bang deserve ko? Ano bang kailangan ko? Ano bang dapat sa akin?" she asked.

"We feel like the world revolves around us, we tend to forget to be selfless. So, being selfless when it comes to your family, to your work, to your relationships, to the people you value the most."

Catch the finale of Love You Stranger, 9:35 p.m. on GMA Telebabad after Bolera.
