Zonia Mejia gets 'refresher course' on acting by doing this role in award-winning program
Sparkle actress Zonia Mejia is all smiles during the Kapuso Brigade Zoomustahan online event held last Friday (April 5) to promote the new episode of the award-winning fantasy anthology series Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko (DKNLK).
Zonia is part of the magical story "Smart Fam," which stars versatile actor Gabby Eigenmann, Matt Lozano, Sienna Stevens, and Rochelle Pangilinan.
"Smart Fam" is the story about Owen (played by Gabby) who is addicted to using his Smartphone. One day, he wakes up to learn that he has been cursed and turned into a cellphone. How will Owen break the curse and how will he share what happened to his wife Cherry (Rochelle Pangilinan) and their kids Elsie (Zonia Mejia) and Annie (Sienna Stevens)?
In her exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Zonia stated that doing DKNLK was a breath of fresh air from her current drama series Lilet Matias: Attorney-At-Law.
“Kasi sa Lilet Matias, sobrang bigat po ng karakter ko,” Zonia said. “Ako 'yung kontrabida, lahat ng masasamang gawain ginagawa ko 'di ba. Pero, dito kasi sa Daig medyo super light talaga 'yung characters namin dito, which is fun!”
She added that doing fantasy projects like Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko also helps actors to use their imagination in portraying unusual characters as well. Zonia explained, “Kasi, nandoon pa rin 'yung kailangan namin ng imagination namin na kailangan sa artista pa. Kailangan malawak ang imagination ng artista para alam namin kung ano 'yung gagawin namin. And nagagawa namin yun dito sa Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko na fantasy.
“So, mas nae-enhance 'yung pagkakilanlan namin sa sarili namin, sa craft namin. Ayun, masaya kasi at least naging refresher 'to para sa akin na puro iyak, galit, drama.”
