Michael V. shares the driving force behind 'Bubble Gang' in the past 25 years
In line with their 25th anniversary, the cast of multi-awarded gag show Bubble Gang celebrated with fellow Kapuso living abroad via the GMA Pinoy TV FunCon held this Friday afternoon (PH time), November 19.
Attending the virtual event was award-winning comedian and creative director Michael V.; he was joined by Sef Cadayona, Archie Alemania, Betong Sumaya, Lovely Abella, Denise Barbacena, Arny Ross, Analyn Barro, and Arra San Agustin.
During the interview segment of the FunCon event, Direk Bitoy shared the formula behind the flagship comedy program of GMA-7.
He explained, “It's all about being relevant. Hindi puwede mabuhay ang Bubble Gang [or] any show for that matter, hindi puwede mabuhay ng walang audience.”
Michael added, “So, you have to have that special bond with your audience. 'Yung formula ng Bubble Gang hindi naman nabago through the years, pero unfortunately during the 26th year ng Bubble Gang na pinipilit na itaas ang standard of comedy, kahit konti lang, marami pa ring outside forces na nakakaimpluwensya ng humor.”
“Kaya napupunta sa iba-ibang direction at nagkakaroon ng iba-ibang style, pero ang bottomline, it's the relationship with the audience that keeps us going every single day,” he said.

Bubble Gang has a long list of well-loved sketches and gags in the last 25 years, namely, “Ikaw at Ang Ina,” “Atlit,” “Balitang Ina,” to name a few.
Michael V. also discussed how the creative team (including himself) has crafted ideas that will eventually be shown in the gag show every Friday night.
The Kapuso comedy superstar noted, “Ang pinakamabilis diyan is an idea that comes from a writer, kasi, 'pag nagbi-brainstorm kami, madalas, may mga baon na sila, mga ideas. So 'yung mga segments na 'yun, madalas galing sa kanila.”
In addition, they also get their inspiration online or through other media.
He continued, “Minsan naman naiimpluwensyahan ng social media, kagaya ni Yna Moran ng 'Ikaw at Ang Ina,' galing 'yan sa isang meme. Si 'Mr. Assimo' parang ganun din galing sa isang joke na narinig ko sa isang radio show, 'tapos parang naimagine ko lang 'yung hitsura niya at 'yun ang ibinato ko sa creative team. Tapos nadevelop na nagkaroon ng segment, tuloy-tuloy na.”
