Yoo Ah-in's agency responds to the Korean actor's alleged propofol use
South Korean actor Yoo Ah-in, known for his roles in movies Punch, Burning, and Hellbound and dramas including Sungkyunkwan Scandal, is being investigated for alleged habitual use of propofol. According to drugs.com, propofol is "used to put you to sleep and keep you asleep during general anesthesia for surgery or other medical procedures."
It is regarded in South Korea as a psychotropic drug and the use of propofol is highly regulated in the country, making it illegal to use without the need for a medical procedure.
Rumors of Yoo Ah-in's alleged propofol use were first reported on South Korea's TV Chosun's News9 when a blind item came out saying that a popular Korean actor had undergone police investigation over alleged propofol use.
A few days prior, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency called in Yoo Ah-in to be investigated for an alleged violation of the Narcotics Control Act. The actor is also reportedly forbidden from leaving the country while still in evaluation by the National Institute of Scientific Investigation in order to confirm his propofol usage.
Yoo Ah-in's agency United Artists Agency (UAA) released the following official statement in response to the reports, confirming that the actor had recently been investigated.
Their statement reads:
"This is UAA.
"Recently, Yoo Ah In underwent a police investigation pertaining to propofol."
"He is actively cooperating in all investigations regarding this and we plan to proactively address the aspects that are a problem."
"We apologize for causing concern."
