BLACKPINK's Rosé and CL make iconic appearance at Met Gala
K-pop artists are known worldwide for their avant-garde fashion sense, which is a huge addition to the music scene's increasing popularity.
One of the distinguished events K-pop artists have graced recently is the Met Gala, also known as the Met Ball. The event is an annual fundraising gala for the benefit of New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute. It marks the opening of the Costume Institute's annual fashion exhibit.
This year's Met Gala red carpet night was star-studded with celebrities and fashionistas thrilled to be back on the spotlight after 2020's in-person Met Gala was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Two of the K-pop's finest were spotted at the Met Gala, BLACKPINK's Rosé and former 2NE1 member turned solo artist Lee Chae-rin or CL, making the two women the first female K-pop artists to walk down the Met Gala carpet.
Before this year's #MetGala no female #Kpop idols had ever walked down the red carpet--that changed tonight when Blackpink's Rosé and former 2NE1 and current solo star CL showed up: https://t.co/XOpzGhLhxD

Rosé is one of Yves Saint Laurent's brand ambassadors and she arrived at the event with YSL creative director Anthony Vaccarello. Rosé wore a black dress with a large white bow. The look is from YSL's winter collection.

While Rosé and CL are the first K-pop female artists to attend the Met Gala, other K-pop artists who have walked on the event's red carpet included Super Junior's Siwon and "Gangnam Style" hitmaker PSY in May 2013, global superstar Rain in May 2015 and EXO's Lay in May 2019.
To make up for the postponed event, a two-part Met Gala for 2021 and 2022 is being held this year with an exhibition called "America: A Lexicon of Fashion" - set to open on September 18, while the Met Gala red carpet night took place on September 13.
