K-pop group WayV's stalker angers fans

By Bianca Geli
WayV members have complained on social media about a stalker fan who tried to take their photos while they were going to a restroom

K-pop boy group WayV's members Lucas, Kun, and XiaoJun have spoken up on social media about a stalker fan who photographed them while they were heading to a restroom.

The members turned to Bubble, a paid app that allows interactions between Korean idol groups and their fans. WayV member Lucas aired his frustrations through a post for his fans on January 18, which was reposted by fans through Twitter.

Lucas wrote, “Everyone, we are currently in the midst of filming but some of such [sic] people have come and the weather is also like this so why…this is so ridiculous, really. I'm so angry. But I'm sorry everyone, for suddenly being like this.”

Lucas shared a picture of a person standing by a taxi on the side of a road, and a staff approaching the person.

Xiaojun called out the stalker fans and wrote, “so rude“ and urged them to show more kindness.

Kun also called the stalker fans out and wrote "That's enough!" and showed images of the same fan using a zoom lens to document the members as they were heading to a restroom.

Fans of WayV shared the members' sentiments, leading "Protect WayV" to trend worldwide on Twitter and urging the group's management label, SM Entertainment, to take action for the boys' privacy.

WayV is one of several bands that are part of the larger K-pop boy group NCT, which is under SM Entertainment. NCT have long been rumored to have an intense following of sasaeng. Fans on social media believe the individual photographed by the members of WayV is a sasaeng who has switched between following different members of the larger NCT team.

Obsessive stalker fans or sasaeng fans are notorious in South Korea for following Korean idols and celebrities after their shows and in their filming locations. Some even stay in the same hotel as their celebrity idols to take private photos of them as well as following celebrities to their homes.

Previously, NCT members Haechan and Taeyong have called stalker fans out.

Recently, K-pop girl group MOMOLAND's member Nancy also dealt with a similar issue. Her agency announced she is taking legal action against a staff member who allegedly took inappropriate photos in secret and then illegally manipulated them before releasing them to a group chat.
