A Filipino comedy-satire short film just made history.

Excuse Me, Miss, Miss, Miss has been chosen to be part of the short film category of the prestigious Sundance Film Festival 2021.

It marks the first time that a Filipino short film was included in the mentioned category.

Organized by Sundance Institute, Sundance Film Festival is the biggest independent film festival in the United States and it is also one of the most recognized indie film fests in the world.

Sonny Calvento directed the film while Arden Rod Condez is credited as the writer.

The 15-minute movie follows the story of a depressed contractual sales lady named Vangie.

Desperate to keep her job, Vangie discovers the secret to regularization that would afford her the job security she badly wanted.

The film is a social commentary, taking a stab at the plight of contractual workers in the Philippines but delivered in funny anecdotes and sequences.

Phyllis Grae Grande (Haunted: A Last Visit to the Red House), Angelina Canapi (Patay na si Hesus), and Bob Jbeili (Ang Pambansang Third Wheel) acted in the movie.

Excuse Me, Miss, Miss, Miss was first screened at the 2019 QCinema International Film Festival where it won the Audience Choice Award.

It made its way to this year's Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival and won Best Short Film.

Excuse Me, Miss, Miss, Miss has graced international film festivals including the Minikino Film Week and Luang Prabang Film Festival.

The 2021 Sundance Film Festival will take place from January 28 to February 3 in Park City, Utah, USA.

The festival will host physical screenings and online streaming to give people from around the world the chance to watch the movies at home.

The threats of COVID-19 are expected to carry over until early next year thus necessitating the need for the organizers to incorporate streaming technology for the first time.

So, for the first time ever, we are bringing the festival to you--both online and in the real world,” wrote Tabitha Jackson, Sundance Film Festival director.

“The heart of our festival is our community. The joining of artists and audiences forms something truly extraordinary.

“We invite you to explore the program, join the conversation, and experience this new festival with us.”
