Actor and recording artist Richard Yap is now a certified Kapuso after he inked a management contract with GMA Artist Center on Wednesday, December 16.

In an exclusive interview with GMANetwork.com, Richard said that he is looking forward to his future projects with the network. He also shared that he would like to try other genres aside from romcom, such as comedy and other projects.

"I think you'd expect me to do a lot of other genres aside from romcom if given a chance. And of course, I'd give my all for the Kapuso fans and the Kapuso family," he said.

He is primarily known as a leading man and had starred in several romantic-comedy series and films.

Richard's transfer to the network has also received positive feedback from netizens.

Ecstatic over the warm welcome he received from the Kapuso fans, Richard said, "I was surprised kasi akala ko hindi ako kilala ng mga Kapuso fans. It turns out na kilala rin pala nila ako.

"Of course coming from another network, you're expecting na hindi sila nanonood sa'yo and all that. It's really [a] welcome surprise na kilala rin pala ako ng fans. So, it's very heartwarming."

Now that he has settled into his new home network, Richard said he still finds it surreal to have been lined up with GMA's roster of talented stars.

"I actually can't believe it kasi parang a year ago or a few months ago parang this was not even possible, I think.

"Now that I'm already here, I'm really grateful to GMA for betting on me na when at this time of pandemic ang daming ibang stations that are letting go of people. There are so many people losing their jobs. I guess I'm just so lucky to be accepted and to be a part of GMA," he shared.

The 53-year-old actor then revealed that he has thought of working with the network in the past.

"There were a few offers for me before already and I was really curious to try it out. It just so happens na hindi nagtugma 'yung schedules.

"I have friends also in GMA. So, parang I was really curious kasi they were so happy with me being a Kapuso. That's what got my interest na parang we could find another na puwede pala nating mapuntahan," he added.

Before starting his career in showbiz in 2011 at age 44, Richard has endorsed and became the face of several local brands.
