Jessy Mendiola opens up about her engagement ring in a tell-all vlog
An emotional Jessy Mendiola is seen on YouTube on Tuesday evening after she addressed an incident between her and a good friend, who also happens to be the initial co-designer behind her engagement ring.
In a tell-all vlog titled “The Truth behind the Ring,” Jessy recounted how her now fiancé, Luis Manzano, had plans to propose to her late last year and had asked Radiant Lux Jewelry to create her ring.
“Luis had the ring made last September 2019,” she began.
“He bought the diamond from Radiant Lux Jewelry and nabayaran niya ng buo 'yung diamond na 'yun.”
Unfortunately, months later, the 28-year-old actress and Luis had broken up, prompting Jessy to turn to her friend.
“May 2020, Luis and I went through something to the point na, nagkahiwalay kami, and this person from Radiant Lux Jewelry was a good friend of mine.
“I trusted her. We both trusted her. We had good faith in her, that's why siguro, Luis chose her to make my [engagement] ring kasi friend ko siya.”
She clarified, “Well, she was my friend.”
During their breakup, Jessy turned to that friend for comfort, but, at the same time, she didn't know that her friend was also asking Luis to pay for the ring.
“Hindi ko alam 'yung intention niya nung time 'yun or ano 'yung purpose niya. But she was there as a friend.
“I just found out about this nung magkaayos na kami ni Luis na, during the time na hindi pala kami okay, she kept badgering him to get the ring even nung hindi pa kami ayos [ni Luis].”
She added that the situation is understandable in Luis's point of view, that he had no intention of getting the ring because their relationship was over.
However, she didn't expect that her friend would divulge and even show her the ring even if she knew that things weren't exactly okay between the couple.
“I don't know kung ano 'yun. She showed me the ring. She opened the box in front of me, knowing na hindi kami okay ni Luis. She let me wear the ring,” Jessy said.
She added, “So can you imagine the feeling ng babae na hindi kayo ayos ng boyfriend mo tapos pinasuot sa'yo 'yung ring?
“Naisip ko 'yung what could've been if okay kami ni Luis, magpo-propose kaya siya? Kailangan ba umabot sa ganitong point na ibang tao pa 'yung magsasabi sa akin?”
Jessy decided to return the ring because she didn't want it.
She also clarified that while Radiant Lux Jewelry is the original designer of her engagement ring, Manila Diamond Studio also took a stab at Luis' symbol of love for her.
“While Radiant Lux Jewelry is claiming that they were the original creators of the ring, the jeweler of the said shop broke client privilege by telling me about the ring way before Luis got the chance to propose,” Jessy wrote in the vlog's description.
“Luis bought the ring and paid for it in full, and is, by right, the owner of the diamond. This means he can choose to do whatever he wants to do with it.
“Manila Diamond Studio was kind enough to help us by having the ring reset to erase the unfortunate memories and start anew.”

It can be recalled that after the couple made their engagement public, Radiant Jewelry published a statement saying that a company would “insinuate a work for something they did not do.”
“We are the original creators of the engagement ring of Jessy Mendiola and Luis Manzano,” it said.
“In our opinion, taking credit for something they did not do is detrimental to the industry that has ring makers who put their heart and soul to their pieces. Such a post or announcement is very misleading and unethical.”
Jessy then noted how sad it was for her to know about Luis' plans before he even got the chance to go down on one knee.
“Nawala sa amin 'yung feeling ng excitement. Luluhod 'yung lakaki sa harapan mo, kinakabahan. Hindi niya alam ano'ng sasabihn sa'yo tapos tatanungin ka niya ng 'Will you marry me? Nawala sa amin 'yun.”
The two then chose to move on from the incident.
In the same vlog, Jessy revealed that Luis proposed in a “simple, heartfelt, and genuine” proposal but later chose to re-enact the event in Amanpulo as their remembrance.
