BTS hailed as Time Magazine's Entertainer of the Year
It's undeniable that K-pop boy group BTS has immense popularity to their global audience. That star power is now officially recognized by Time Magazine as they are recently hailed as the Entertainer of the Year for 2020 by the publication.
On Thursday, December 10, the cover featuring the septet was released and said, “between releasing multiple albums and breaking every type of record in 2020, the Korean pop band ascended to the zenith of pop stardom.”
Suga, one of the boy group's members, sat down with writer Raisa Bruner to talk about their success as a group.
He said, “There are times when I'm still taken aback by all the unimaginable things that are happening. But I ask myself, 'Who's going to do this, if not us?'”
The members also considered that despite their numerous successes, they also experienced quite a few setbacks brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Still, the group managed to push through with the help of their adoring fans called the ARMY.
J-Hope added, “I always wanted to become an artist that can provide comfort, relief, and positive energy to people. That intent harmonized with the sincerity of our group and led us to who we are today.
“Us and our fans are a great influence on each other. We learn through the process of making music and receiving feedback.”
This year has been a landmark for BTS.
Recently, their influence has reached South Korean lawmakers who passed the so-called “BTS Bill” earlier this month, giving pop stars the ability to postpone mandatory military service.
They also recently bagged their first nomination for a Grammy Award.
