Bernadette Sembrano opens up about having a miscarriage
A tearful Bernadette Sembrano was seen on Facebook on Tuesday, December 8, after the news anchor opened up about her miscarriage last year.
In the four-minute video, Bernadette introduced her baby daughter, Mary Olivia, or “Molly,” to the world through a sonogram picture.
“I want you to meet Molly, Mary Olivia,” she said.
“We had Molly on the latter part of the year [2018]. I think that was December 8, when we got the confirmation [from the doctors] that Molly was successfully implanted sa akin.
“But we lost her before my birthday in 2019.”
As a way to honor her late daughter's life, she began living her life to the fullest by saying “yes” to a lot of things.
She explained, “I remember when I was pregnant with her, I had a journal. Palibhasa late na ako maging pregnant, so I thought I should write her a letter or mga habilin if I didn't see her grow up.
“But anyway we lost Molly, but in my heart I knew, that the way I can honor her is if I lived a life I wished for her -- a life of saying 'yes' to a lot of things, a life serving, and in my case music.”
Bernadette continued, “I started serving sa chapel because matagal ko nang pangarap na mag-serve sa simbahan, pero nako-conscious ako kaya hindi ko nagawa-gawa.”
In the same year, after losing Molly, her father sadly passed away a couple of months later.
The news anchor said that she promised her dad that “whenever I would sing, I would remember him.”
She then advised her viewers that in order to move on from one's "bubog" is to embrace it.
“Initially ang tendency para hindi ako masaktan, ayokong isipin,” she added.
“Pero ang natutunan ko, isipin mo kung gaano sila kahalaga sa buhay mo, ano ang naging buhay nila, at how they would feel if they saw us now -- 'yung mga nawala sa buhay natin.
Bernadette concluded, “I'm pretty sure Papa and Molly, who are both in heaven and my heart, are very happy and proud because I am with them.”
Bernadette married Emilio “Orange” Aguinaldo IV, the great-grandson of Emilio Aguinaldo, in June 2008.
Besides Bernadette, several Filipino celebrities have also opened up about going through the pain of losing a child by miscarriage, including Heart Evangelista, Regine Velasquez, and Mariel Rodriguez.
