Danding Cojuangco passes away at 85

San Miguel Corporation Chairman Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco died on Tuesday, June 16.

Through a statement posted on Wednesday, June 17, San Miguel Corporation announced the passing of its chairman and Chief Executive Officer Eduardo "Danding" Cojuangco. He was 85 years old.

GMA News Online shared the statement from San Miguel Corporation that wrote: "San Miguel Corporation announces the passing of its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Eduardo M. Cojuangco Jr., on the evening of June 16, 2020,"

According to the statement, Cojuangco has been the chairman and CEO of San Miguel Corporation since July 7, 1998.

San Miguel Corporation is one of the Philippines' biggest conglomerates, with businesses in food and beverage, infrastructure, and energy.

He served as chairman emeritus of the Nationalist People's Coalition and ran for the presidency in the 1992 elections against former President Fidel V. Ramos who won the elections.

He was also a supporter of Philippine basketball, owning three teams in the Philippine Basketball Association: the San Miguel Beermen, Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, and Star Hotshots.

Cojuangco is the cousin of former President Corazon Aquino and was among the prominent figures of the 1986 People Power Revolution.

He celebrated his 85th birthday last June 10.
