'GMA Supershow' hosts reunite to promote positivity in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic

'GMA Supershow' hosts collaborate to give hope to the public through their 'Smile' special cover.

Former GMA Supershow hosts have reunited and once again joined forces to send messages of hope in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.

Spearheaded by singer-songwriter John Nite, the hosts which include Dawn Zulueta, Lani Mercado, Jam Morales, Rachel Anne Wolfe, Mariz Ricketts, Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan, Jackie Lou Blanco, Princess Punzalan, and Arlene Muhlach, have gifted the public with a heartwarming cover of Charlie Chaplin's hit song “Smile.”

Dawn posted the said video on her Instagram page alongside a lengthy and heartfelt message.

“From me and my former co-hosts of 'The GMA Supershow' who, during this present COVID-19 pandemic, came together to create this small project.

“A message to all who are undergoing the many challenges of this crisis, we offer our fervent prayers, wish to give you hope, and make you smile.

“Thank you to the great Charlie Chaplin for this beautiful song, a favorite of our beloved Kuya German Moreno,” she wrote.

The special cover opened with John talking about the challenges mankind has been dealing with since the virus outbreak.

“Saan man po kayo nanonood ngayon dito sa Pilipinas or anywhere in the world, I am fervently praying na you are in the best and the most comfortable conditions right now.

“We are in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic crisis and alam ko po napakalungkot and very difficult for all mankind but we still believe. We are very resilient and we can still find things to smile,” John said in the video.

Meanwhile, the female hosts of the show came together in an intimate gathering in 2019 which Jackie Lou then described as “a reunion long overdue.”

GMA Supershow was the longest-running Sunday noontime variety show in Philippine television until 2015. Hosted by the late German Moreno, it premiered on May 7, 1978. The show concluded on January 26, 1997 with a total of 978 episodes.
