The Magic Kamison works wonders Riding a bike for the first time, having your first crush and going out on the first romantic date are probably some of the most unforgettable events in our lives. There are many other remarkable experiences we have had, but the things we did or experienced for the first time will always have a special place in our hearts. Veterans in showbiz as some artists may be, they still are not exempted from having first time experiences in the industry. We caught up with the cast of GMA 7’s new Sunday afternoon show, Magic Kamison and learned that more than having another project, the show gave them unforgettable first-time experiences they will always cherish. Text by Jessa C. Bien. The natural comic Gladys Guevarra stars in her first lead role as the child Chuchay who takes care of the enchanted clothing in Magic Kamison. Excited, thankful and thrilled, she proudly exclaims that she has been the choice for the show since its conception. “Ito ay maipagyayabang ko sa kahit sino, ako ‘yung choice for Magic Kamison . Sinabi nila ‘yun sa’kin, hindi ‘yun galing sa’kin, so talagang thankful ako” she happily says. Also for the first time, Gladys shows there is more to her than singing and making people laugh. “(Sa) pilot episode, doon ako nag-heavy drama. With the guidance of Direk Khryss Adalia, umiyak ako, humagulgol, kasama ang puso at kalooban ko,” she says, almost unbelievable she did such act. “Doon ko naramdaman ‘yung the actress in me,” she adds with a jest. Speaking Kamison Known for her powerful voice and tasteful acting abilities, the legendary Pilita “Mamita” Corrales is a star in her own right in Magic Kamison. As the voice of the happy kamison whose goal is to help people, she graces the show with her warm and very noticeable speech. It was something she did for the first time, she says. “In the beginning, it was a bit difficult, pero it’s much simpler now (that) the director is telling me exactly how to do it.” Preferred for her distinguishable accent and fluency in Bisaya, Tagalog, English and Spanish, Mamita, according to Direk Khyrss is exactly the person who can give character to the kamison. “Kapag narinig mo ‘yung timbre ng boses niya, ‘yung Bisaya na baluktot na Tagalog, kilala (mo) na ang boses ni Mamita,” Direk Khryss comments. In a way, Mamita is also like the kamison as she is a generous soul herself, he says. He even shares beautiful stories on how Mamita has helped and inspired a number of people. “She’s an inspiration. She’s the perfect kamison for us." Success in the Making Packed with a group of people who love what they do, enjoy each other’s company and believe in the importance of prudence in work, the Magic Kamison project may well be dubbed as a success in the making. Direk Khryss, a firm believer of freedom in the workplace, leads the group and says he does not need to be strict to make people follow him. “When there’s freedom, kahit saang workplace, everybody can produce the best” he explains. And with everybody putting their hearts in their jobs and giving their best in performing their tasks, the Magic Kamison has started living up to its name: working wonders on people who deserve to have only the best.
