Veteran director Mel Chionglo dies


The country lost one of its most brilliant film directors, Carmelo “Mel” Chionglo, on Saturday, September 21. He was 73 years old.

In a Facebook post of Direk Joey Reyes, he paid tribute to his good friend.

Writer Suzette Doctolero also took to Twitter to show her respect to the veteran filmmaker.

Direk Mel was a native of Lucena City, Quezon and served as the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival competition-monitoring chairman.

He is also behind several gay-themed movies like Sibak: Midnight Dancer, Twilight Dancers, and Burlesk King.

His colleagues, as well as netizens also expressed their condolences.
