Thursday night is your concert night as a new musical show will grace our screens that will definitely change our late night viewing habits.
Featuring the singing prowess of Regine Velasquez, she will give life to timeless classics as well as the masterpieces of world-class foreign and local artists and composers.
A concert experience
Songbird is a 45-minute show that will give the loyal Kapuso viewers first-rate concert performances from Regine. Paying tribute to some of the big stars in the music industry here and abroad, she will sing her own versions of these timeless classics.
“Every week is a different theme, we will feature different artists, songwriters, genres, we even do movie themes, so every week is different,” confirms the host and the one and only Songbird. She further adds that she will have different guests per episode which will depend on what particular theme they are doing for the week.
The works of well-renowned composers and artists such as Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand, Barry Manilow, Rey Valera, Ryan Cayabyab, George Canseco and Ogie Alcasid will be interpreted by the Songbird and her guests.
Aside from this, in each episode Regine will feature a song that is not as popular as the other works of the featured artist/composer.
“You’re not just going to hear your favorite songs. Si Regine she makes it a point na each episode may isang kanta na siya lang 'yung may alam! 'Yung hindi pwedeng kantahin (laughs),” confirms Ms. Darling de Jesus, Assistant Vice President for Musical, Variety and Specials of GMA.
Hosting a musical
In the press conference of Songbird, Regine Velasquez expressed her gratitude to the GMA Network for giving her a chance to host her own musical show.
“I said it’s been my dream to have a musical show. Maipagmamalaki nga kasi it has been a long time na walang musical show. Having a show like this is something to be proud of kasi bihira lang nagkakaroon ng this kind of special every week so I am very very proud to have been given this opportunity,” says Regine to the press.
She further clarifies that this show is quite different from her hosting stint at SOP and adds that in an episode she will do around 7 to 8 songs.
“Minsan meron kaming medley na about 5 minutes, so para siyang concert talaga,” adds Regine.
Indeed this show has a lot to offer aside from an extraordinary musical experience and the Songbird’s vocal prowess, our Thursday nights will truly be a musical journey.
“Sana po mapanood niyo ito, this is going to be every Thursday, sana ‘yung suporta po na lagi niyong ibinibigay sa akin, sana po mahingi kong muli ngayon sa pagkakataong ito,” was Regine’s appeal to the Kapuso viewers.
