He crash-landed on Earth, fought off monsters, died and was resurrected -- he even became a basketball star! What else is there that Dennis Trillo hasn’t done for Zaido yet? Text by Jason John S. Lim. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. When Dennis Trillo signed up for Zaido, he already had his own expectations, but he didn’t seem to have been prepared for everything that had happened to him and his character. From the first time he donned the space suit of Gallian, a lot had changed for the actor and his character on the program. And not everything had been a walk in the park. stars “The usual na challenges na hinaharap namin tuwing taping (is) ‘yung mga puyatan.” Dennis revealed that in Zaido, work can become play -- especially with the storylines that are tailor-made for their younger-than-usual audiences. So the only thing that was hard for the cast was to stay up late and still keep their energy running high. Another challenge was to make their viewers forget the played other characters before coming to Zaido. A challenge that Dennis thought they’ve surpassed pretty well. “Sa tingin ko na-accomplish namin,” the actor said, explaining that kids now know them as their Zaido characters and not as any characters they’ve played before. “Nakalimutan na nila ‘yung dati, ‘yun ‘yung importante kasi.” He adds "And nakakatuwa kasi nagawa namin ‘yun effectively, kaya ‘yung ratings, consistent.” Dennis is also thankful for getting the chance to work with new GMA talents, as well as the chance to become an action star. “‘Yun ‘yung outstanding tlaga dito na ginawa ko,” Dennis said that doing the action stunts, donning the harness, all gave him something he hadn’t done before. “Siguro ‘yung nagbasketball, (at) ngayon, meron naman kaming rock band.” stars That’s one of the good things with Zaido. It’s main stars are able to experiment with different roles while playing the same character, and staying true to that character. “Pinakagusto ko ‘yung basketball scene namin,” Dennis revealed. He shared that it had been too long since he was able to play basketball, and shooting the ball scenes was very relaxing for him, his co-stars and the crew. “Talagang wala kaming kapaguran.” “Basta may court doon, kahit na umaga na, in between takes, naglalaro kami. Kumbaga hindi kami natutulog. Nandoon lang kami lagi sa court, kaming tatlo (nina Marky Cielo at Aljur Abrenica). Tapos minsan, kasama namin ‘yung mga crew. Masaya. Hindi namin namamalayan ‘yung mahahabang oras na intayan.” And with the rock band storyline, Dennis was able to relax and be himself. “Siyempre ako ‘yung nagda-drums. Natural na sa akin ‘yan.” Dennis also shared that he was getting used to the contacts he wears for the show. But he admitted that he’s still having trouble with putting it on and taking it off everyday. Meanwhile, Dennis didn’t count working with the Zaido Kids as a challenge. “Plus factor ‘yun sa show. Kasi ang mga viewers talaga, siguro majority, mga bata talaga. Kaya pandagdag excitement sa mga kids na nanunuod. Although iba-iba ‘yung mga viewers, majority talaga ‘yung mga kids. Kaya para mas abangan nila lalo.” Want to know more about Dennis Trillo and his experiences with Zaido? Chat with him this coming Monday, January 21 and ask him yourself!
