READ: Miss Universe Haiti's and Miss Universe Colombia's answers to the 65th Miss Universe final Q&A
Miss Universe Haiti Raquel Pelissier and Miss Universe Colombia Andrea Tovar placed first and second-runners up respectively. Congratulations, ladies!
Miss Universe Haiti Raquel Pelissier and Miss Universe Colombia Andrea Tovar may not have succeeded in winning the coveted title and crown, but their answers to the final question-and-answer (Q&A) portion at the 65th Miss Universe coronation event deserve the same praise and applause.
Raquel, who was hailed as the first runner-up, recalled a tragedy that happened to her country, and shared how she rose above it.
She said, “About seven years ago, I survived the earthquake. I feel I was failing myself because I was not living my dreams. I was living day-by-day. And that earthquake, it was a bad event, but I chose to be a very positive person, and learned a great lesson from it. Because if I am here today, it’s because I am living my dreams. Thank you!”
Meanwhile, the answer of Andrea, who is Miss Universe 2016 second runner-up, focused on acceptance and living in diversity.
She said, “I think for many times, one makes mistakes for many things. During moments when you may not accept someone due to their differences, do not accept them due to their sexual preferences, and to not be capable of accepting their error, I think any of those experience. Yet any of those experience gives you the opportunity to have strength, and value, and principles. Thank you!”
Iris Mittenaere of France won the crown as Miss Universe 2016.
